This painting was inspired by the beauty of Al-Kazimiyya Mosque in Baghdad. The golden dome and minaret show the outside, while the sky carries the same dazzling colors as the ceiling inside. A shadowy woman stands between them, stepping from the sacred interior into the world.
Returning to Iraq after 45 years reminded me that what I was searching for — art, beauty, and connection — was waiting for me all along.
