Self-love is the practice of caring for and appreciating oneself unconditionally. It involves recognizing one's worth, nurturing personal growth, setting boundaries, and prioritizing one's well-being and happiness. It's about treating yourself with kindness, compassion, and acceptance, just as you would a dear friend. This whimsical title hints at the profound message within. It invites you to embark on a journey of self-discovery and self-care, wrapped in the cozy embrace of self-love. With each glance, "Love Hat" serves as a gentle reminder to prioritize kindness and compassion towards oneself, like adorning a cherished hat that complements one's essence.

Painting is a powerful medium for expressing emotion, thoughts, and messages. Drawing inspiration from August ‘s birthstone color, which is a light greenish yellow, can infuse my artwork with the emotion of peace, calmness, nature, strength, love truth, innovation, loyalty, and happiness. Embracing the color’s meaning can enhance the depth and impact of the creative process, allowing me to convey my feelings and messages more effectively throughout my art. Sharing my artistic vision with the world and touching hearts with my work can be a heartwarming experience. The power of color and emotions can create a meaningful and impactful art. My children taught me so much about life by me seeing the world through their eyes. It makes me humble and in awe of what it means to be a mother. In this painting, I chose a red scarf because red, in Japan, is a traditional color for a heroic figure. For them, red denotes strength, passion, and self-sacrifice as per Ardak Kassenova. The white color around the mother and the children represents the deep emotional bond between them. The dove in this painting is commonly known as a symbol of motherhood, devotion, purity, and peace. The mother in this painting represents a tree shape of Mother Trees. According to The Mother Tree book, “Mother Trees are large trees within a forest that act as centralized hubs, supporting communication and nutrient exchange amongst trees.” Mother trees recognize kin, supply resources, share wisdom, sound alarms, support networks of hundreds of trees, foster deep connections and alliances, and pass their legacies down to future generations. We have more in common with trees (and nature) than we think. I remember my parents used to thank us for taking the time to visit them. It didn’t make sense to me then, but now I understand the fact that our adult children, who are coping with the challenges of life and situations, taking the time to be with us is well appreciated. For me life is all about memories and experiences. Sue Turayhi Motherhoods-Acrylic-16x20 https://www.sueturayhi.com/store/Motherhoods-Acrylic-24x30-p502062959

Water is the softest thing, yet it can penetrate mountains and earth. This clearly shows the principle of softness overcoming hardness.” Lao Tzu In this painting, I tried to convey the water element with color, shapes, and energy. Its colors are represented in deep blue and black. Blue conveys tranquility, serenity, and sadness. Black represents depression, but at the same time creates a sense of deep spiritual knowing. This color black includes all colors of the spectrum and therefore reflects brilliance. It shapes are irregular, wavy, and curvy. The water energy in this painting represents the free flowing feeling of the ocean, and the deep dark stillness of nighttime. Water is the most expressive element in nature. It responds to every mood from tranquility to turbulence. Walter J. Phillips The Water Element 12”x12” Sue Turayhi (847)476-8699 https://www.instagram.com/sueturayhifin/ http://www.sueturayhi.com/

“I’m always astonished by a forest. It makes me realize that the fantasy of nature is much larger than my own fantasy. I still have things to learn.” – Gunter Grass This painting was inspired by the wood element that is found all around us in nature. The tree trunk that is continually active and uprising, the different shades of green, and the tall, narrow vertical lines that stand majestically in the forest are all the elements that compelled me to create this painting. As I walk through the forest almost every day, I realize and am astonished by the energy of the wood element. Spring is when everything is new and sprouting, and growth is continually active and uprising. I am inspired by shapes that are tall, narrow, and in vertical lines. There is a bench in my yard where I sit early every morning surrounded by nature. With all the beautiful trees that encircle me, it becomes a place to be inspired, to dream, and to reflect on creating my future goals. My environment is my inspiration and my playground. Per Feng Shui philosophy: Green is the color of growth, abundance, harmony, and peace. It is a good color to promote wealth and prosperity. Dark bluish purples and bright reddish purples represent wealth and royalty, nobility, and dignity. “If you want to live a peaceful life, either bring the forest to your house or your house to the forest!” – Mehmet Murat Ildan The Wood Element 12”x12” $ 150 Sue Turayhi (847)476-8699 https://www.instagram.com/sueturayhifin/ http://www.sueturayhi.com/

Art is born of the observation and investigation of nature. Marcus Tullius Cicero iMay of 2020, I decided to create five paintings. Each piece represents one of the fundamental elements that I refer to as, “environmental impacts”; wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Each element has its own color, shape, energy, and season. The process of focusing on one element for each painting allowed me to appreciate and understand how to use each one in my art to create balance and a harmonious composition. Wood Element - The colors that I associate with this element are the varieties of green tones, dark bluish purples, and red purples. I associate, shapes that are tall and narrow with the wood element. The tree trunk energy is active, growing, uprising. It represents the spring season. Symbolically it represents growth, abundance, harmony, and peace. Fire Element - The colors in this element are red, deep oranges, brilliant bright yellows. Shapes that come to mind are triangular or abstract. Fire energy is active and expansive. It represents strength as well as a sense of flare and drama. I associate summer with this element. Earth Element - The Earth colors are soothing and calming. Muted yellows, oranges, browns, tans, gold and clay. Contrary to typical beliefs associating earth to round, I use the square and rectangle to represent earth as a stable structure, firmly grounded. The four sides of the square represent the four directions; north, south, east, earth elements represent stability, grounding, rootedness. I see this element as a holder of water, metals, and nourishment for the woods. As a season I associate late summer with the earth element. Metal Element - The colors associated with metals are grays, whites, silvers, bronze, gold tones as well as pale pastels. Circles represent the metal elements for me and the energy is unity, perfection and completeness. I associate autumn with this element as a season. Water Element - The colors are represented through the deep blues and black. Blue for me conveys tranquility, serenity, and sadness. The color black includes all colors in the spectrum and therefore reflects brilliance. The shapes are always irregular, wavy, and curvy. The water element in my paintings represents the free-flowing feelings of the ocean as well as deep dark stillness of the night. The season I associate with the water element is winter. The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web.
